The 2024 Bruce Whaley Spirit Ride is back! This year, the ride (combined with the Capitol Classic), will take place on September 21. The ride will offer both road and gravel options. This will be a charity ride to benefit the Capper Foundation’s “iCan Bike” program in Topeka. Read below for more information on the Capper Foundation’s mission and the program. If you are unable to ride but would like to donate to the Capper Foundation, we have provided a donation box on our BikeReg page for the ride.
Capper Foundation and iCan Bike
“iCan Bike”, formerly “Lose the Training Wheels”, is a unique 5-day summer program experience to give 30 individuals with disabilities (ages 8 and older) the self-confidence to learn to ride a two-wheel bicycle. Using specialized equipment, coaching, and encouragement, participants will “lose the training wheels!” For individuals with disabilities, learning to ride a bicycle has many benefits, such as increased confidence and self-esteem, inclusion with peers, independent transportation, and most important, increased quality of life through recreation.
