The Retro Velo ride is a ride on weekday mornings, usually Tuesday and Thursday. The start time, departure location and even day of the week will change in order to take advantage of favorable weather.
Distances are 30-40 miles with riders forming groups based on speed. Pace can range from 14 to 18 mph with occasional stops to regroup.
After most Retro Velo rides we have lunch and socialize at a local restaurant.
Riders should subscribe to the Retros forum at https://www.lawrencebicycleclub.org/ to be informed about upcoming rides.
The first Retro Velo rides for 2024 (weather pemitting) will be on April 16 and 18.
Weekly Rides are for club members only. A non-member may participate in one free ride before joining and must prior to the ride, sign a "non-member one ride waiver" found in the drop down options once clicking New Member Signup on the home page. A Ride Leader can also help a non-member sign a quick release form.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start time for discussion of the route, safety and any other relevant issues.
Please Note: If you join the ride late/mid ride or leave the ride early/race off the front to not be seen, you are no longer officially part of the ride and all insurance coverage is voided.
Inclement weather. Leaders have the discretion to cancel or delay the start of a ride due to inclement weather or other unexpected conditions. In addition, the leader may, upon arriving at the start location, determine that riding conditions are unsafe and cancel the ride.
Helmets are required, headsets are prohibited, and please carry identification and emergency contact information.
Rules:
Ride safely.
Stop at stop signs.
Ride as far to the right as is safe and practicable.
A double paceline should only be ridden where traffic and road conditions permit.
